Savernake x The Burnt Chef Project
We were delighted to have been approached by The Burnt Chef Project to design a very special, limited edition knife in support of their campaign to eradicate the stigma surrounding mental health within the hospitality industry.
Just 80 individually numbered Burnt Chef Gyuto Ultra knives will be made – representing the 80% of professionals within the hospitality industry who, in a survey by the Burnt Chef Project reported having experienced at least one instance of poor mental health, such as anxiety or depression, as a result of their role within the trade.
Drawing inspiration from a classic Gyuto, our limited edition Burnt Chef Gyuto Ultra has a longer 9″ blade with a very subtle rock, a good hilt stop and a really nice slicing action. It sports a striking white on black resin handle illustrative of the Burnt Chef brain logo and is a beautifully balanced, clean and refined knife designed to appeal to professional chefs and home cooks alike.
Thinner, lighter and slightly longer than a European Chef’s knife, our Burnt Chef has been designed with slicing and dicing uppermost in mind and lends itself to more of a vertical chop than the more traditional rocking motion. A rare example of the influence of the Japanese aesthetic in our range.
Expertly combining the appeal and expertise of the oriental tradition with our British design and craft heritage and passion for innovation, this double bevelled beauty will serve you well.
We will be donating 10% of the sale of each of these knives to The Burnt Chef to aid their mental health awareness campaign.
Thin, light, balanced with a subtle rock – it’ll tackle everything from troublesome turnips to fiddly dill and also prove to be a fine friend in your hour of need when faced with a lovely piece of fresh haddock.
As with every Savernake Knife, the Gyuto Ultra features our trademark concave blade, expertly blended into a tapering convex cutting edge. The blade’s concavity allows the knife to have both a sturdy spine and a cutting edge best measured in microns. It also removes excess weight and encumbrance from the side of the blade and is – in short – the business.
