Craft, creativity, precision and excellence
Our first collaboration with bespoke furniture maker Lansērring has resulted in this extraordinary set of knives, the embodiment of design and craftsmanship.
From our very first conversations it became immediately apparent that we both shared the same obsession with detail and passion for pushing the boundaries of what the combination of traditional handcrafted techniques and innovative 21st century technologies could deliver.
Lanserring’s Director of Design, Alex Beaugeard, set us the brief of wishing to reference aspects of traditional Japanese knife making for the faceted handles, with a nod to traditional cabinet making techniques through the inclusion of a brass double dovetail rivet to secure each of the individual pieces of each knife together.
For our original Lanserring Collection, we chose a combination of contrasting but beautifully complimentary woods for the handle, opting for rich Mopane for the handle and African Blackwood for the bolster. The two materials are held securely together with a brass butterfly which is reflected in the champagne coloured blade. We ventured into new territory to deliver this, employing innovative PVD technology to coat the blade in a highly durable gold finish which not only looks the business but will last the lifetime of the knife.
As a reference to Lanserring’s Austrian origins and the location of its world-class workshop at the foot of the Riegersburg Castle, we laser engraved the contours of the surrounding area onto each individual blade.
The Lanserring collection is comprised of four differently sized and profiled blades, representing the ultimate essential knife set, with each being named after key elements that form the basis of Lanserring’s own story – Heritage, Journey, Philosophy and Narrative.
Heritage is the largest knife in the collection, the foundation upon which Lanserring is built. It’s Santoku-inspired blade profile pays homage to Japanese knife making as well as to our signature Savernake knife and allows for both a modern and traditional cutting action. Large enough to tackle big kitchen prep, dextrous enough to manage fiddly tasks.
Journey is based on a larger classic chef knife profile, with its longer curved blade allowing for a smooth rocking action and finely pointed tip perfect for detailed food preparation.
Philosophy is a smaller chef’s knife, compact, agile and lightweight – ideal for smaller hands or tasks where a larger knife would prove cumbersome.
Narrative is the smallest knife in the collection and again, gives a nod towards the Asian aesthetic with its petite, Santoku-inspired blade. Perfect for veg prep.

As with every Savernake, the knives in our Lanserring Collection feature our trademark concave blades, expertly blended into a tapering convex cutting edge. The blades’ concavity allow the knives to have both a sturdy spine and a cutting edge best measured in microns. It also removes excess weight and encumbrance from the side of the blade and is – in short – the business.

To ensure the safety and well being of our small team of knife makers we have implemented additional measures in our workshop to enable us to continue to make custom knives and accessories. The need for us to minimise the number of people in any one area of the workshop at any given time – plus ensuring all knives are sanitised prior to posting – means that our average lead time is currently around 4 to 6 weeks.
- Every Savernake product is made to order. The quest for perfection takes time, so in normal circumstances please allow 3-4 weeks for your order to arrive (see below for Gift Boxes, Cards & Panic Department).
