Proudly supporting the NHS and our UK hospitality industry.
2020 will certainly go down in memory as being one of the most bizarre and for many people, truly an annus horribilis.
We’ve been very fortunate at Savernake to have been able to stay open throughout the entirety of the Covid pandemic and the increase in people choosing or having no option but to cook at home has seen our knives literally flying out of the workshop as fast as we can make them.
On the back of this, we chose to support three very worthy charities earlier this year. With the additional support from two-Michelin starred chef and friend of Savernake Tom Aikens we were delighted to raise £1,520 for NHS Charities Together during a live charity auction hosted by Tom on his Instagram page. Not one but two very generous bidders agreed to share the winning bid with Tim Allen winning Tom’s own special edition Savernake Tom Aikens knife and Louisa Guinness winning a customised replica, both with matching honing steels.
We also wanted to support the UK Hospitality sector who were one of the first to be impacted by the forced closure of restaurants, cafes and dining venues and who will likely be one of the last to fully recover. In donating £50 from the sale of every first time knife purchase between April and May we managed to raise £1,350 for Hospitality Action who, who since 1837 has been offering vital assistance to everyone working in the UK hospitality industry. A small way of us saying thank you to the many chefs and restaurants who have supported Savernake since launch.
Finally, we were approached earlier this year by Kris Hall, the founder of The Burnt Chef Project to see if we would be willing and able to make a special edition knife to help raise funds for their campaign to raise awareness of mental health within the hospitality industry. With 8/10 hospitality professionals experiencing mental health issues at some point in their career, we felt this was a cause well worth throwing our weight behind – and our limited edition Burnt Chef Gyuto Ultra is now on sale with 10% of every knife sold going direct to the project.
