Configurator Guide

Configurator Guide

We believe a great knife should feel like it was made just for you. Our configurator is the perfect way to design and commission a world-class, made-to-order knife that reflects how you cook, what you love, and what feels right in your hand.

Every one of our custom knives has our signature (and unique) concave geometry, offering an unparalleled thinness behind your cutting edge. It’s like slicing air with a scalpel.

Before you dive in, we’ll walk you through the options available so you know exactly what’s what. And if you’re ever unsure, there’s always a maker at the other end of the phone, WhatsApp or email, happy to help.

Blades

With 18 blades to choose from, you’ll still find a selection that’s ruthlessly focussed on kitchen mainstays.

Handle Materials

From dense, oil-rich tropical hardwoods to eye-catching resin composites we cast in-house, our handles are designed to be as beautiful as they are practical. Some people want a kitchen statement piece. Others just want something grippy, indestructible and easy to wipe down. Either way, we’ve got options. And unlike a lot of knives, we’ll actually tell you what we’re using – no “mystery pakkawood” here. For an in-depth look at our Configurator materials head on over here

Handle Shape

We offer two distinct handle styles, each designed to suit different hands, habits and preferences. Our traditional handle fills the whole hand and is ideal if you’re spending long hours at the chopping board; it offers comfort, stability and is especially well suited to our larger knives. Our contoured handle, on the other hand, is something a bit different. Shaped by hand and designed to swell gently into your palm, it gives you the control and precision of a pinch grip, while still delivering much of the comfort of a full-hand hold. We particularly recommend it up to Medium Plus size.

Liner

Historically, red leather liners were used to give wooden handles a bit of flex as they expanded and contracted with the seasons. We’ve kept the idea, and the colour (if you want it), but swapped leather for a tough, waterproof glass-fibre composite and bonded everything together with marine-grade epoxy. Choose from a whole spectrum of colours to add contrast, subtle detail – or just a bit of personality to your knife.

Spine Pattern

Back in the day, filing decorative jimping into the spine of a blade was a signature move for custom makers – and when we started, we did the same. These days we cut the same patterns but fill them with coloured composite, echoing your liner choice and giving the knife a truly distinctive finish. It’s subtle from the side, bold from above, and absolutely unmistakable as a Savernake.

Engraving

Two lines of text, a range of typefaces, and plenty of space to make your mark. The configurator gives you a live preview, but don’t worry if it looks a little off – every engraving is checked, adjusted, and laid out by one of our knife makers before it’s engraved. Want more text? Or even a line drawing or logo? No problem – just drop us a line. Our tip: use Raleway, all caps, and keep it short – it’ll match the Savernake logo beautifully. But it’s your knife, so feel completely free to ignore us!

And to wrap it up

Each of our knives are packaged up in our distinctive capsule. No plastic-wrapped boxes for us – the capsule ensure the knife gets to you safely and also means that if you’re giving one as a present they offer an absolutely stupendous unwrapping experience.
