The Butcher's Cleaver
The Big Boy Cleaver is the tallest and heaviest cleaver for the big jobs. Typically a cleaver of this size is used by butchers to cut through bones and tough cartilage. Cutting through carcasses, preparing pork shoulders, Legs of Lamb, Beef Ribs, this knife is a necessity for a Butcher or anyone who processes their own meat. The weight of the cleaver lends an important hand to its user. It is thick and heavy to make lighter work of the tougher cuts.
From our work with some of the UK’s Top Butchers, we designed this cleaver to tackle the biggest jobs. It is the heavy artillery using a thicker blade than other knives. The Cleaver looks stunning and is matched by its functionality. It is sharp, it is very tough and keeps its sharpness with its industrial usage. The Handle is made from Chacate Preto wood and has a grey liner for a beautiful classic look. The Handle is strong and smooth to the touch with a beautiful deep lustre.
Unlike every other Savernake Knife, the Big Boy Cleaver does not feature our trademark convex cutting edge beyond the concave blade. Due to the hard work and cutting through solid material, The blade is linear for the first 9cm and retains a very sharp edge over the last 3cm. The Edge of the Big Boy Cleaver is slightly curved with a 4.8m Radius. We use 60 HRC Sandvik 14c28n Stainless steel which gives our knives the perfect level of sharpness and durability rated in the top 2.5% in the world.
The Big Boy Cleaver comes complete with a sheath made from Richlite that protects the blade when not being used.

Covid 19 Update
To ensure the safety and well being of our small team of knife makers we have implemented additional measures in our workshop to enable us to continue to make custom knives and accessories. The need for us to minimise the number of people in any one area of the workshop at any given time – plus ensuring all knives are sanitised prior to posting – means that our average lead time is currently around 4 to 6 weeks.
